As you may have heard, we are expecting our second child due early next year. Having a child is one of the greatest experiences that I’ve yet to experience and wouldn’t trade it for the world. What I haven’t shared with alot of people is the unfortunate circumstances that we’ve had with both pregnancies. Twice now we’ve had to deal with a miscarriage. The term miscarriage is so commonplace nowadays that you don’t think that much about it. That is until it happens to you. Losing our first child was extremely tough for both of us. We didn’t really know how to respond. We’re thankful now for the son that we have, but you always wonder “what if”.
Today I wanted to share some information about a local organization that is determined to help families cope with losing a child. That organization is called the Mom Project.
What is the Mom Project?
The MOM Project offers a variety of venues for pregnancy and infant loss support. They started in October 2003 and started delivering gift bags to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for bereaved families. By their second year, they were sending out birth certificates and recognition of life certificates worldwide. By their third year, they started offering Mother’s Bracelets free of charge. They continued in their third year by sending support and memorial items to bereaved families worldwide. They have been fortunate to acquire some talented and compassionate volunteers. The MOM Project has been honored to affiliate with other organizations such as ILAC (I Lost A Child) of Southern Illinois, The Angel Teddy Bear Foundation, Elena’s Inspiration – The Shining Light Fund, Soul Support, A Mother’s Grief, and others.
What Do They Offer?
They hold a local support group which meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 6:00pm. Their meetings are held at the Carbondale Civic Center in Carbondale, Illinois. We offer an online support group via message board and live chat, as well as email correspondence. Visit our website and click on Messageboard. We also offer one on one support. Our volunteers are compassionate women who have been through a loss and are willing to meet with you on an individual basis as schedules allow.

What a sweet idea so that the families who loose a child still have something to remember their babies. I think that in our culture it is easy to downplay certain losses, like any death, really, for whatever others “deem” as “worse”. But any loss is significant, including miscarrying a child and it should be remembered as such
Nice idea.
Wish it would have been when i lost my son (10 months old) in 1972.
I was a very young mother.

He had the most beautiful smile and blue eyes.
You never forget.
