Great list. Even though I'm reading it in Nov and it was apparently published in June! I really appreciate #108 as I am a faithful tither (if that's a word) - 10% tithe and 10% offering and I've got to tell you I have done far more with the 80% that's left than I would have ever done withthe 100%! Keep up the good work!

Staci,
That still isn't a financial decision, though, and doesn't answer my questions. It isn't about my state of mind, it's about the cost:gain ratio. By what you're saying those decisions still don't make financial sense OR financial cents.

Okay, let's talk tithing and/or charitable giving. Doing it for the humanitarian reasons are all great, but when money gets tight, what do you do? Do you tighten up your giving too?
Being able to give for reasons that are beyond humanitarian, and beyond just being thankful for where you came from, means that you are in a different place mentally and financially. Its the financial Peace (to borrow from Dave Ramsey) that lets you say "I have enough money, I have enough stuff". Regardless of how much money you have. Its the not having to worry about whether or not you will have enough.
I just blogged about this with Strawberries.
http://teachingmoneytokids.blogspot.com/search/label/offering
Now whether or not this makes good financial cents comes when you are able to say I only need____ to be happy instead of needing a billion dollars to be happy. You can arrive sooner. And being able to give money away is a huge step in taht feeling of arrival.
But if you aren't there, you may not recognize it.

This is an excellent list and covers all of the important areas of personal finance. Great job!

I do agree with "prufock" regarding tithing. I don't tithe but I do try to donate money to charities instead.

Only 2 points out of 109 I question: 107 and 108.

107. I'm a fan of charitable giving, but I do it because it's the humanitarian thing to do, not because it "makes financial cents." Is it really possible to bank a return on donations? I know that it can reduce tax on your income, but can you really do any better than break even? Would it be better to pump that money into savings?

108. Similarly, I'm not sure how giving money to a religious institution is supposed to show a financial return or savings. If I'm going to give money to the reason I exist, I'll give some to my parents.
