I usually attend about 10 Carolina basketball games a year as well as 65 (yes you read that right) minor league baseball games a season. My husband usually drags me to a few Carolina football games and a couple NFL games as well (I'd much rather watch football on TV and avoid all the drunks). We try to eat before we go. Obviously with as many games as I go to I can't eat at the ball park. I'd be broke, fat, and have diabetes as well as high cholesterol. So I/we eat before we go and I usually pack a light snack and some water. However I don't always deny myself a treat at the game. But drinks are the most expensive. Absolutely avoid the beer - it is way overpriced. I have a bar fridge full of good beers at home, why would I pay $8 for a warm Bud Light? Water is way overpriced, too, but you need a cold drink sometimes and soda is likely to dehydrate you and make you hungry - thus causing you to spend more money. You can always refill that water bottle at a water fountain, too.

Also shop around for your tickets. All those minor league games I go to are rarely sell-outs. I know I can buy the cheapest ticket and still sit behind home plate. College and NFL football is different, but I know where to shop around and get the best price. And it helps to have family members who are way up in the Alumni club so you get free tickets :)

Best way to save is to resist the food. Beers are expensive and so is the food. You can enjoy the game without those, and save a lot of money. Staying at home is free, but nothing beats seeing a game live.
